O Holy Night is one of the most well loved Christmas songs of all time. The music itself is emotional and moving as we think of the birth of Jesus. However, it is the depth of the words of this great song that really inspire us. The second verse of O Holy Night takes us beyond that first Christmas and points us to the ultimate reality that it is only in the name of Jesus that we have freedom and that ultimate reality that finds release from the corruption of sin. One day, the little child int he manger will return and put an end to all oppression and sin. In that day, we’ll fall on our knees and praise His name forever.
Truly He taught us to love one another.
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,
and in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
with all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord, O Praise His name forever,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
