Deep down inside every person is thirsty for something.
The heart of a human being always longs to be filled. We are always looking for that thing, person, or situation that will finally bring us satisfaction and contentment. There is a hole… a longing inside of us that must be filled. Jesus addresses this thirst in John 7, and reminds us that what we are all really searching for is God.
Far too often, our quest is to try and quench that thirst with anything we can find that we think might fill the void. All the while, we are unaware or unwilling to admit that it is God that we truly need. IN this passage Jesus makes a dramatic statement about Himself. IN fact, the Bible says that He shouted as He offered Himself as the One that quenches the thirst of our hearts. The result of believing in Him would be living water to drink that would never stop flowing from the depths of our hearts.
How are you trying to fill the void in your life? Are you looking to relationships, success, money, education, pleasure or one of a thousand other places? How is that search turning out for you? Hear the voice of Jesus today as He offers His Holy Spirit to truly and forever fill the void in your heart.
