Atoka| Jesus Is _ (27)| John 16:33

PEACE

Webster’s Dictionary defines peace as a state of tranquility or quiet.

This definitely does not describe the scene that was about to unfold at the end of the Gospel of John. Jesus was about to be arrested, beaten, and ultimately crucified. His followers would flee for their lives, hide in the darkness, and watch their friend and Master die on a rugged cross. The lives that these men and women would live in the future would not be described as peaceful, either. Many of them would be imprisoned and martyred for their faith as they followed the risen Christ.

Astoundingly, as this drama was about to unfold, Jesus gave one last promise to His men: Peace! in John 16:33, Jesus acknowledged the coming struggle, but then promised them peace and victory in the middle of it all.

Often, our lives are anything but peaceful, tranquil, and quiet. The struggles of life and or this world seem to almost overwhelm us at times. Jesus told us that “in this world” we would have tribulation. He was certainly right! However, He also said, “Take courage, I have overcome the world.” Today, we’ll look at that beautiful promise of Jesus, and begin to find the peace and victory He offers!

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. John 16:33
