You Can’t Fool Jesus

Only a few hours before His crucifixion, Jesus gathered together with His disciples in a private room to observe the Passover. He washed their feet, and gave them an example to follow as they served others. He had so much to tell them that night to prepare them for the days ahead. All of these men had left everything to follow Jesus. All of them had traveled with the Lord all over Israel with no place to call their home or lay their heads. They had preached the gospel, healed the sick, and were in awe over the acts of Jesus. That includes Judas. Bo one would have believed that he would be the one that would betray Jesus. In fact, no one even suggests Judas. After all, he was the treasurer of the group. You might even argue that Jesus had given him great responsibility. how could there be a man so evil in their presence, and yet no on even suspected that he was the one.

The truth is that Judas looked just like everyone else. He acted the same way. He was always there with everyone else. He talked the same way, and maybe even seemed to share the same goals. But his heart didn’t belong to Jesus. He had everyone else fooled, but he didn’t fool Jesus.

It’s possible to be in church and look like everyone else. It’s possible to say all the right things and do all the right things. It’s possible to fool everyone in your life, except for Jesus. At the end of the day, Jesus made one last gesture of grace to Judas, but he walked away into the night. Is Jesus making one last gesture of grace to you? You can fool everyone else, but you can’t fool Him.
