The gospel of John is unlike any other book in the Bible.
In fact, ninety percent of the content of John is not included in any of the other gospels. It was the last gospel written and contains a wealth of teaching and events that challenge us and reveal the true nature of our Savior. It is a book that deals with themes and ideas about Jesus that are deep and meaningful, yet it is so simple that any child can easily understand the plan of God to love and save anyone that would believe. The book of John contains seven signs or miracles of Jesus that reveal His power and identity. It also contains severn “I Am” statements that reveal exactly who Jesus really is.
Over the next several months, as we study the book of John, we will come to understand Jesus in a deeper way than ever before. As we study and dwell on the “I Am” statements, we’ll be brought face to face with an all sufficient Lord!
Our goals will be to develop a passion for the Name of Jesus, to come to believe in Him more and more, and to find the abundant life that He desires for all of His children. John expresses these goals at the end of his book in chapter 20:
“And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you my believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”
