Is Jesus Enough?

The Apostle Peter was one of Jesus’ boldest most loyal followers. He was the one that first proclaimed that Jesus was “The Christ, the Son of the Living God!” He was almost certainly the leader of this little band, and one that loved Jesus deeply. He was also the one that promised to stay with Jesus until the end, and even die for him if needed! Peter was loyal. Peter was willing to stay with Jesus until the bitter end. That is, until the heat was on. That is, until things didn’t go the way Peter expected.

The same man that boldly proclaimed his love for Jesus, would be the man that would deny him at the most critical time. The man that knew Jesus best would claim that he didn’t know him at all when the going got tough. The one that we might think would be the last one to bail out, was indeed the first one to walk away from Jesus. Why?

Have you ever wondered what happened to Peter? Have you ever wondered how such a brave follower of Jesus would allow a simple servant girl to put him on the defensive? How could a man that walked with the truth for three years, lie over and over again about knowing and following Him. An ever better question is, “Could it happen to me?”
