“I love being married.  It’s so great to find that one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life.”photo

Let’s face it.  No one has a perfect marriage.  In fact, most marriages are far from perfect.  The expectations that we have of our spouses at the altar get blown out of the water a few days later.  This person that we thought would bring us joy and fulfillment, actually  has bad breath in the morning and does all kinds of selfish things.  So, where does that leave us?  We can be disappointed, angry and resentful toward this person for whom we had such high hopes.  We can literally spend a lifetime trying to get from then what they were never created to give us.  Live this way too long, and a marriage can find itself on the ropes…down for the count…broken

Today, we will deal with the number one marriage mistake.  It’s got nothing to do with finances or sex.  It’s not in-laws or parenting styles.  It’s not leaving the toilet lid up, or selective hearing  It’s all about expectations and who we expect to meet our deepest needs.  Jesus told the woman at the well that only He offered water that would quench our thirst forever.  Who are you trusting to meet you deepest needs…to quench the deepest thirst in your soul?

“…but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.  but the water I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14
