“Preach the gospel at all times, and if necessary use words.”
Maybe you have heard this saying. It’s the idea that by living our lives in a certain way that others will want to come to Christ. Jesus even said something similar in Matthew 5:16:
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.”
It is indeed an awesome thought that just by the way we live our lives that someone would be drawn to Christ. But, is that our only responsibility as believers? Is God’s plan for the spread of the gospel solely dependent on the way we live our lives? The bible indicates that God’s primary plan for us involves far more. In fact, Scripture seems to indicate that our lives simply serve as the backdrop for our words:
“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?”
