I remember a humorous incident from when my son Matt was very young.

He was just old enough to begin using the church restroom by himself. ON this particular day, as he left the restroom, he was making an attempt to wash his hands. (for which I am very thankful!) A well meaning older gentleman proceeded to give him instructions on the proper way to wash his hands. Matt looked him in the eye and said, “You do it your way, and I’ll do it mine.”

Have you ever faced this attitude when trying to be a parent?

We might have wisdom or help that we can offer, but they just want to do it their way! Have you tried to figure out how to deal with a strong will and still show love to your children? It’s also possible that this is our attitude as well. We might think that we have it all figured out. . .that we are going to parent our way. . .when our Heavenly Father knows the best way.

Over the next few weeks, we are going to try to learn from the perfect Father how to be good parents.

There are some clear instructions in God’s Word that we need to pay attention to as we take on this sacred task. Keep in mind that this is not just instruction for parents, but for the Body of Christ as we learn to support each other in the raising of our families! My prayer is that we will all be encouraged in our failures, and challenged to point our children to Jesus!
