Do you know what a plumb line is?

When you are building something, you have to be sure things are straight and that all of the angles are right. A plumb line is a tool that helps a builder be certain that everything is lining up. A plumb line is a balanced weight suspended from a string that shows the straight line of gravity’s pull. They help line those corners up and make sure the measurements are even. Of course, the whole goal is to build something that is stable and will stand the test of time.

Jesus said in Matthew 16 that He is “building His Church” and that the gates of Hell would bot prevail against it. He left the early church with His Spirit and they began to build a foundation that would last. In the book of Acts and throughout the New Testament, there are a series of plumb lines that serve as guides as we seek to continue to build on the foundation.

As we build, there are some things we have to get straight. There are some foundational pieces that must be in place to build something that will last and impact the world for Jesus. Over the next six weeks, we will be looking at these Plumb Lines. . . the North Stars that will point us in the right direction. . . the attitudes that will help us lay a foundation for a movement of God that will launch us out into the world to the glory of God!

Our first Plumb Line: The church is measured by what we do when once we leave the building.
