Have you ever been away from home for a long time?
If so, you know what it’s like to miss your family, your bed, your dog, and so many other things that just make it “home.” Home is a place of safety, provision, peace, and love. When we are away, so often we can’t wait to get back home!
We also have a Spiritual home.
For all of us, that Spiritual home is with God. God describes Himself as a loving Father that cares for us, provides for us, loves us, and desperately wants us to walk with Him. However, often we find ourselves away from home spiritually. For some reason there is something in us that thinks that it is better away from home and away from God. So we wander away and experience life away from home. We walk away from the peace, protection, and provision of home and the love of our Father. This has always been true. The hymn writer from long ago said it this way:
“Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love.”
Do you feel it too? Inside all of us there is this drive to see what life is like away from God…on our own…doing it ourselves…running away from home. However, it never ends well. We make poor choices, and find that life away from home is painful and pointless.. The question becomes, “Can I come home to God, after I’ve been so far away?”
There is a road that leads back to God. There is a road home.
If you are running away from God, you need to know that you can come home. Over the next few weeks, we will walk this road together, and find a heavenly Father that is anxiously awaiting your return!
