Summer vacations are in full swing! Many of us have already been out of town for some rest and relaxation, while others can hardly wait to get a break! It’s great to get away for a while, but isn’t it also great to get home! We miss sleeping in our own bed. We miss our pets and the familiar routine of our lives. There’s just something about coming home!
This is true in our Spiritual lives as well. Sometimes we find ourselves away from God. We wander away or maybe even run from God. Eventually being away from God gets weary, and we long for the warmth of being home. The journey away from God wears us out and brings so many consequences into our lives. In the long run, home is really the place that we long for.
The prophet Jonah had been our example of this journey away from God. Jonah ran as far and as fast as he could away from God. He ended up in the worst of places…the belly of a great fish. It was at the end of Jonah’s rope that he finally realized that what he really needed was to go home to God. So, in the belly of the fish, at the bottom of the sea, Jonah started his journey home. Are you ready to start yours?
