ESSENTIAL BELIEFS

Basic Assumptions

In essential beliefs, we have unity.
In non-essential beliefs, we have liberty.
In all our beliefs, we show love.

About God

God is the Creator, Sustainer, Provider, and Ruler of the universe.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

About Jesus

Jesus is the Son of God, the Word made flesh, and the Sacrifice for human sin.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

About the Holy Spirit

He is the third person of the Trinity and co-equal with the Father and Son.  He is the very Spirit of God that lives within us received at Salvation.

John 14:25-26 I am telling you these things now while I am still with you.  (26) But when the Father sends the Counselor as my representative-and by the Counselor I mean the Holy Spirit-he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I myself have told you.

About the Bible

The Bible is God’s Word to us.  It is God-breathed and therefore without error.  It is the story of redemption and our road map for life.

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.  It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right.

About Salvation

Salvation is God’s free gift of redemption for us.  It cannot be earned.  Jesus Christ died in our place.  Repentance and simple faith are God’s requirements for salvation.

Ephesians 2:8-9 God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so non of us can boast about it.

About Human Beings

People are created in the image of God.  However, we are fallen and have inherited a sin nature.  Thus, we need a Savior.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

About Eternal Security

God is the author and the keeper of salvation according to Scripture.  A person that is truly saved cannot lose their salvation.  This is inconsistent with the power and the character of God.

John 5:24 “I assure you, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life.  They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.”

About Eternity

There is a literal heaven and a literal hell according to Scripture.  It is our desire to partner with God to prevent anyone in our sphere of influence from entering eternity without Christ.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise to return, as some people think.  No, He is being patient for your sake.  He does not want anyone to perish, so He is giving more time for everyone to repent.
