When we become followers of Jesus, God is definitely not finished with us!
In fact, His plan for us extends our whole life and then on into eternity! Our relationship with Christ is a journey of becoming more like Jesus. IN fact, in Romans 8:29 it says that God has “chosen us to be conformed to the image of His Son.” That simply means that we are involved in a lifelong process of change and growth. God is definitely working on us!
When you look at the patter of the early church in the book of Acts, you see that they were devoted to some things that allowed them to grow in their faith. Acts 2:4 centers on two things in particular.
They were devoted to “the apostle’s teaching” and to fellowship.”
In tother words they were in the Word of God and they were in relationship with one another. They found out that growth happened best when God’s Word was applied in the context of relationships. When it says that they were “devoted to” fellowship, it means that they worked hard at establishing a common bond…they worked hard at loving each other and creating deep relationships.
There are some things that we simply cannot learn outside of relationships. There are some areas of spiritual growth that can never happen if we isolate ourselves from other believers. What the early church discovered was that God never intended for us to walk with Jesus alone.
